Wesley George Messer, Jr., fondly known as George, passed away peacefully on January 22, 2016, at Cahokia Nursing and Rehab Center in Cahokia, IL. George is survived by his loving wife Marjorie Messer, nee Yearwood. The couple were married for 53 years. They had recently moved to Waterloo, IL to live with a daughter, Patty and her family.
George was born on Dec. 29, 1942, in Panama City, FL, to Wesley Messer, Sr. and Ponez Messer, nee Barnes, (both deceased). In addition to his wife, George is survived by their 3 daughters: Tina Griggs of Panama City, wife of Willie; Robin Dunning of Pottstown, PA, wife of Tim; and Patty DeRousse of Waterloo, IL, wife of Rick. One brother, Claborne Messer of Dawsonville, GA, husband of Diann; and his sister, Helen Hambric of Jasper, AL, wife of Greg. There are 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren who dearly loved their Grandpa, including one grandchild Priscilla Ponez Gainer who preceded him in death.
A cabinet maker and clock repairman by trade, George also worked for many years at Century Boats and Pacifica Yachts in Panama City. He enjoyed working with his hands and making beautiful creations out of wood. He was very much liked and well known for his talents.
George was a long-time member of the Panama City Christian Center and more recently of Grace Fellowship Church in Parker, FL.
A Memorial Service will be held at 5 PM Saturday, January 23, 2016 at Hope Christian Church in Columbia, IL.
