Marcella M. "Sally" Schmittling

Mrs. Marcella M. “Sally” Schmittling nee Schmidt, 83, of Waterloo, IL, passed away peacefully in her home on October 20, 2015, in Waterloo, IL. She was born July 6, 1932, in Columbia, IL.

She is survived by her children Donna (Rick) Paradis of Pooler, GA, Donald Schmittling of Waterloo, IL, Dennis (Kim) Schmittling of Freeburg, IL, David Schmittling (Donna St. Germain) of Freeburg, IL, Diana (Tom) Hemmer of Belleville, IL, Debbie (Jim) LeRoy of Smithton, IL; 18 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Alois & Ardell (nee Kissen) Schmidt, loving partner of 32 years Donald Reis, great granddaughter Lainey Schmittling, & sisters Gloria Tilley, & Joan Kohler.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 AM Saturday October 24, 2015 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 411 Palmer Rd., Columbia, IL with Msgr. Carl Scherrer officiating.

A Memorial Service will be held at 12 Noon Saturday October 24, 2015 in the Immaculate Conception Catholic School Cafeteria 312 S. Metter Columbia, IL.

Sally was an avid baker. She loved to preserve the vegetables from her garden making homemade jelly, pickles, pasta sauce, relish, and salsa. She also enjoyed reading and crocheting. Friday nights you could find her at the VFW playing bingo. Sally provided stewardship, guidance, and ever growing love to her 6 children and many grandchildren. She was the indispensable bond that kept them all together.
