Dwight Nelson "Diz" Ahrens, 79, of Valmeyer, IL, died February 3, 2025, in Columbia, IL. He was born July 15, 1945, in Valmeyer, IL.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years (married 4-11-1964) Cheryl Ahrens, nee Droste; son Nicholas "Nick" Ahrens (Nicole Alspaugh & Kason); grandchildren Chad (Melissa) Schmitz, Robyn (Ryan) O'Daniell, Amanda Ahrens, Danielle (Ryan) Magouirk, Samantha Ahrens, Mackenzie (Rayce) Northam, Ethan Rowe-Brown, and Evan Rowe-Brown; 13 great grandchildren; sister Kathleen Yarbrough; sister-in-law Lynn Ahrens; nieces; nephews; cousins; and many friends.
He is preceded in death by his son Duane Ahrens; daughter Lisa F. Schmitz; parents Russel and Alice (nee Steinmann) Ahrens; brothers Lowel "Fred" and Randy Ahrens.
Dwight was retired from Ameren Electric (40 years), Operating Engineers Local 148. He was a charter president for Valmeyer area Jaycee's, a Valmeyer Board member, volunteered with Valmeyer Fire Department, appointed mayor of Valmeyer, an infrastructure chairman for the new town of Valmeyer, and a Jack Daniels Squire. Dwight loved his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He enjoyed boating, bowling, camping, vacations, crossword puzzles, Bud Light Brigade, and was a cornucopia of lessor known facts. He could fix anything and no one was ever a stranger.
