David B. Brightwell

September 25, 1930 — April 16, 2024

Waterloo, IL

David B. Brightwell, 93 of Waterloo IL, passed away peacefully on April 16th in the warm embrace of his family. David was a firm man of faith, but he will be most remembered for his fun spirit, stubborn nature, and sense of humor.

David was born September 25, 1930 in Newbern, TN. He grew up learning the value of hard work alongside his six siblings and proudly served in the Army during the Korean war. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Earline Brightwell and son Michael Brightwell. David leaves behind children Debbie and Jack Cauley, Shelly and Tim Lerch, and daughter in law Cookie Brightwell.

David retired from General Motors with 30 years of service and dedicated the rest of his life to his family. He is treasured by all who knew him, but he was treasured the most by his grandchildren. He was the most requested field trip volunteer and never missed a soccer game or practice. His love was action. He also loved singing on the phone, and don’t you dare sing over someone else’s part! He was quick to call just to say “he loved you, to make sure you knew he cared”. And if anyone was ever in doubt, he was there to remind them he’d always love them the most-est!

The love he has for his grandchildren; Traci (Rob) Doerner, Scott (Dee) Cauley, David (Missy) Brightwell Shaun (Kat) Brightwell, Crystal (Antonio) Cauley, Jason Brightwell, Alex (Rebekah) Lerch knows no bounds. David was also beloved by his 8 great-grandchildren.

David also enjoyed Cardinal’s Baseball, Jeopardy, Bowling, Reading and Puzzles. For years he enjoyed traveling to area dances with his many friends and loved ones. But no one more special than Iona Heidel of Red Bud, IL. Later in life dancing turned into treasured daily phone calls David eagerly awaited.

David loved to laugh and joke. He proudly told all that he was finer than a frog hair split three ways. He will be missed by all who knew him, as he truly was one of a kind.
