Daniel Joseph "Dan" Scott Sr., who was born in St. Louis on March 10, 1937 to his devoted mother, Marcella Grace (Redmond) and father Daniel William Scott, passed away on Father’s Day, June 19 ,2016 at the age of 79, surrounded by his family and his dog at his home in Waterloo, IL.
Dan is survived by his wife, Judy Tate-Scott, together for 29 years, who provided his primary hospice care at their home pursuant to Dan’s wishes, his children: Ann (Kurt) Dulle, Karen Hudson, Susan (Darryl) Norris, Dan (Diane) Scott Jr., Kevin Scott, Tim Scott, step children: Jimmy (Shari) Tate, Jennifer (Eric) Keeling, grandchildren: Lauren, Nick, Terry, Angel (and John), Amber, Alyssa, Lemuel, Danielle, Kayla, Kaden, Weston, Abigail, Bryce, Haley, Max, Sophie, Easton, and great grandchildren: Jayden and Kendrix and his former spouse, the mother of his children, Patricia (Knackstedt) Marino and many friends.
Dan maintained many lifelong friendships beginning with grade school at St. Mark’s Catholic School, St. Louis University High School, Regis College in Denver, and St. Louis University in St. Louis, where he graduated. He served with the U.S. Marine Corps and was stationed in 29 Palms CA. He volunteered along with some of his grade school friends transporting shut-ins to and from St. Mary’s hospital in St. Louis.
Dan is retired from Missouri Probation and Parole.
Dan’s love for horses and dogs began at an early age and continued throughout his life: he rode his horse in grand opening parades of nationwide rodeos at the Arena in St. Louis and in the St. Patrick’s Day Hibernian Parade in downtown St. Louis, where he also drove a team of ponies with a potato cart, he and his wife Judy trailered their horses and spent much time camping out and trail riding in Colorado, Wyoming, and the Smoky Mountains. They were also very active members of the Prairie Du Rocher Saddle Club.
Dan was a loyal friend to many, loved to joke and play tricks on people, including his family, always entertaining and gifted with an infectious laugh.
